Filtration Experiment

Today in Hurumanu 3 we are doing Filtration Experiment for chemistry. Aim: To Separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction).
Hypothesis: what do you think will happen...
Method:
1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.
6. Observe what happened.

Observations and Discussion: what you saw happen and why do you think it happened.
The copper sulfate + Sodium sulfate were clear but then when you mixed them together it made to foggie and you couldn´t see through it anymore.
Serial Dilution: repeated divulting (making it weaker)
water + potassium permanganate - mixture/solution.
1.Water 10 mL 2. 5mL 3. 5mL 4. 5mL 5. 5mL 6. 5mL
         +
   KMn04
Most concentrated.                 Least concentrated.
Most KMn04.                         Most Water
least water.                             least KMn04
least Dilute.                            Most Dilute.
The biggest one had the most purple and had the most in it, you had to put 5mL in each one so it can be all even. Number 6 was the lightest because it was the last to go in and that you couldn't take any of the purple stuff that was in the the biggest one from the start, it had to be all even so at the end they could be the same hight. Science.

Atmosphere - how you feel in a sitiuation mood.

1. Scene Auggies first day at school - When Auggie walks into amos says the seat is saved.
Angles/Shot - long shot / eye level of class close ups of Auggie to see his emotional reactions

Lighting + colours -
Palette - colours used in the scene e.g nature palette has colours from nature - brown, green.
           Warm/Cold - warm makes feel safe/comfortable - cold makes feel clean/ stripe.
           Bright - vibrant, jumps out
Dull - faded muted, blends in
          Natural - sun/moon light
Artificial - Man mode light e.g nightclubs.

Lighting + colours - warm - makes the classroom feel safe & welcoming.
                           - Bright colours - gives room energy & life.
                           - Natural -  light coming through the windows.
Effect on the viewer  - Happy, chilled, exciting, educational, inspiring.
Director   - Wants to be create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr Browns classroom. Even though feels this way, Julien & Amos's behaviour is unkind.

In the scene of August's first day at school, lighting & colour are use to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment. For instance, bright warm colours are used on the walls and natural comes through the windows to make the space look lively. This makes the audience feel excited, inspired, and that space educational and supportive for learning. This was done to show Mr Browns has created a classroom space that would be welcoming to newnStudents like Auggie.

Coinciding with this is the use of body language. The children in the room are sitting up, smiling and paying lots of Attention; They are learning ready.  This reminds the viewer of the theme kindness because the ligting and colour make the room welcoming for all students.

Hurumanu

Today we have been doing hurumanu SCIENCE and so far it has been good. WATCH THIS VIDEO AND COMPLETE THE INVESTIGATION.

THE BIG PICTURE

  • What animals keep our jackets warm? They use duck feathers so our jackets keeps us what
  • What animal makes our boots waterproof? Ducks because ducks get dry really quick and it doesn't get that we if we wear our boots. Leather boots are made from cattle.

  • Where does the water in our rivers come from? The mountains and the snow.
  • Why do we need healthy rivers? because if we don't it will just get really dirty and nothing would want to go in the rivers. Fish need to be living in clean, healthy rivers.
  • What are some of the good things about mosquitoes? They keep our rivers nice and clean.
  • Why are bees dying? Because losses Because many agricultural crops worldwide are pollinated by the western honey bees. Insecticides kill too.
  • What do bugs do to our leaves? They sometimes eats our leaves but not much of them do.
  • Reduce make a smaller amount or size amount.
  • Reuse means use more than once.
  • Recycle to collect rubbish and put it where it is mean't to go
  • How much dung would we be in if there were no dung de- composers? 7 feet
  • Who runs this planet? We would need a lot because we need trees and air so we can peeve. That's all for today please leave a positive, helpful and a thoughtful comment down below bye now.  Mother Nature Rules!

Hurmanu Science

Hurumanu - Science Badges: Introduction

Science Badges:

Image result for science badge

'Conservation'

  • Climate Science
  • Global Warming
  • Recycling
  • Renewable Energy
  • Fossil Fuels
  • Ecology
  • Our Planet
  • Water
  • Plants
  1. 15 Points are needed to get a badge
  2. A high standard of work.
  • All experiments are written up ( Aim, Materials, Steps, Conclusion)
  • Two photos of your experiment
  • 6 sentences at least for a conclusion

Science will be twice per week.

  • Lesson 1: This will be an Experiment that involves blogging. You will be expected to open a new post, copy Mr Palmer's blog and paste it on your new post.
  • Lesson 2: This will be an Investigation that relates to the topic from Lesson 1. It will be own choice and displayed in a way that you prefer. For example - PowerPoint, Doc, etc

BLOGGING.

All the blogs and science lessons will be displayed on Mr Palmers blog:

Bookmark it!

Expectations:
  • 1 blog must be completed per Hurumanu lesson.
  • A completed blog must have the four headings ( Aim, Method, Findings, Conclusion), correct writing and punctuation under each heading and be published. No post, no points.
  • 2 images of the experiment / investigation on the blog.
Using the Scientific method of investigation:

Aim: What the experiment / investigation is about.
Method: Instructions on how the experiment / investigation is carried out. This includes the equipment.
Findings: What have we learnt or found out from our experiment / investigation. This is called Data, Information or Facts. It is displayed in a chart, table or picture.
Conclusion:

My Hurumanu Science Goals:

1. To wear safety equipment if we are in a science lab.

2. Listen to the teacher who is teaching the experiment instead of talking to my friends.

3. Making sure we got all fullstops and capital letters.
